Why I Love Design

Oh, how I love Interior Design.

For me, it’s a passion.

I haven’t always been good at it, but I’ve always loved the process—the journey of discovering what I love and bringing those things together in a beautiful way.

Making our house warm and cozy for my family gives me pleasure.  Ensure that everyone’s things have a place and that they can find it when they need it.

It makes me happy and calm.

I get so excited about each new project that there are times I can’t even sleep.

That’s passion.

My husband Neal and I have spent much of our 23 years of marriage working on one house project or another.

We didn’t have much money back then, so that’s when we honed our DIY skills from hanging or taking down wallpaper, trying my hand at tiling my backsplash, or laying hardwood floors.

But with each renovation, we gained more experience and confidence in our abilities and grew to love the process.

Each of those projects brought us closer and gave us a sense of pride for what we could accomplish when we work together.

I have to say that Neal has been a saint through all of the renovations. He has always encouraged me to get out on the skinny branches of design. I’m sure that many times he was thinking “what is she doing” but he would shake his head and get back to work.

It was that encouragement that has enabled me to stretch my creative wings and try all different styles of design.

A Couple Renovations We’ve Done

The Biggest Renovation

House number 5 was our biggest renovation yet.

When we drove past this house the first time Neal said “no way!!” lol

I talked him into just “looking” at it and as we walked through it and talked about what was possible.

We agreed it just felt like where we were supposed to be.

So we prayed about it for a couple of days and decided to make an offer. The deal needed to be right for the numbers to work.

Our offer was accepted!

Our Latest Renovation

We are now in our 6th house. 

We bought this little farm a year ago and we have been slowly coming up with our plans to transform it into a modern farmhouse. 

Here is a picture of the outside of the house.  

I know, I know.  Modern Farmhouse might be a stretch from a 1972 tri-level.  

Just trust me.

We are on 7 acres about 5 miles out of town.

This is new for us.

4 city slickers that don’t know anything about living in the country.

But we all wanted it.

When we came out to look at this house, I walked around the land and took a breath of the fresh air and listened to the cows and horses.

I knew we were in the right place.

The house, however, has not been touched for a l o n g, l o n g time. It has good bones though and I wasn’t able to sleep for weeks while we were waiting to close.

Passion taking over again lol!

The first project on the list and the biggest is the kitchen.

I can’t wait to take you through the renovation!!

I’m so excited about making it into the Modern Farmhouse kitchen of my dreams!!

For the Love of Design

As I begin the journey of writing this blog, I again have my husband cheering me on all the way. 

Telling me that I can do this and that I will be great at it. 

Thank God for him cause there are many days that I’ve had my doubts.

It is my dream that I can help others along the way to realize their design dreams.
