Hi friends!  I’m excited to show you my modern farmhouse dining room reveal.

Do you have a room in your house that you just love?

Is it cozy and warm, making you want to curl up with a good book?

Or full of light with the sun streaming in?

For me, it’s our dining room.

When we looked at this house one of the first things I noticed was how bright and sunny this room was.

There are tons of windows and the view of the farmland around our house makes my heart happy.

I knew that my modern farmhouse style would look amazing in this space.

So let’s take a tour of this beautiful light-filled space.

Before

Here is the before picture of this room.  Definitely not my style but the bones were there.

After

So here is my updated modern farmhouse dining room.

When I started decorating this room I knew I didn’t want anything to compete with the light-filled room or the view so I painted it white and used warm woods and black painted pieces of furniture.

The neutrals in this room really make the view of the farm around us the star of the show.

Our previous house was more formal (see photos of our last house here) and I felt the need to purge when we sold that house so I sold all of the furniture with the house.

This gave me the chance to buy pieces that fit and blended with our new style and size of the home.

This house is about 1500 square feet smaller but the rooms are larger and brighter.

We installed white oak floors throughout the house, again to give it a light and airy look that is super casual and comfortable.

After a year of walking on them and cleaning them, I’m still in love!!

We had darker floors in other homes and I am so glad we went with white oak.

These days I try to make everything I can easier…simpler to deal with.

Is that something that comes with age?   I’m thinking it is.

Beauty is important but not at the cost of my time.

Right??

I searched for months for a cabinet that I could use for storage of my china.

I didn’t want it to look too formal and it needed to have clean lines to fit my modern farmhouse style.

I ended up finding this piece at a local store here in Richmond.

As soon as I saw it I knew I could make it work.  It had mirrors in the top of the doors and the bottom was wood.

After closer investigation, I found that I could remove the mirrors and wood and replace them with glass to get the look I wanted.

Then I painted the outside black and the inside a creamy white.

I absolutely love the finished project.

Isn’t it fun when you find a DIY project that turns out perfect!

All the buffet and bar cabinet in my dining room came from auction houses here in Kentucky.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I owned a used furniture store with my best friend so I had good connections to find the perfect mid-century pieces.

While running our store I developed a love of mid-century furniture and is the mixture of mid-century and farmhouse is a favorite of mine.

I ordered my dining table and chairs from Houzz.  They are such a great resource for nicely built mid-priced furniture pieces.

The drapes in this room came from Target and the rug came from Rugs USA.

Both are very neutral and keep with the simple minimal theme of this room.

I’ve added the links to the items in this room if you are interested, just click the bold word to go to their site.
