Hi friends!  Over the last year, we have slowly renovated our 70’s ranch into the Modern Farmhouse we love.  We are getting there room by room and so I’m slowly rolling each room or renovation project out.  This week I’m revealing our Modern Farmhouse Entry Foyer Design.

Before

This house was built in 1972 and in the Entry foyer you can really tell it.  Between the fountain, the rounded staircase and the delightful 70’s front door, there was plenty of work to be done.

We started by tearing out the rounded staircase and the carpet.  I really felt like it was a hazard and it dated the entry foyer so it had to go. 1970’s design is so funny to me because it was definitely showmanship over function.  haha!

After

We had already installed new white oak hardwood floors throughout the house so we added matching white oak stair treads. My favorite touch to the staircase was the tile on the back of each step.  I found these awesome stickers on Amazon that look exactly like cement tiles for a fraction of the cost and they were so easy to install.  This touch of black and white was a Modern Farmhouse must.

We replaced the front door with one that is half glass and has two sidelights and it really brightened up the entry foyer area of the house that had been dark and drab. The entry is large and this makes it look even larger.  There were no closet doors on the coat closets so we also installed new modern sliders to give a fresh minimal look.  I found an amazing driftwood light fixture from our local Vintage Market.  It’s so unusual and I love it.

I decided to leave the brick fountain structure in the entry not being sure what was underneath it.  After removing the fountain itself I filled the box with pebbles and sat a plant on top.  It works out great as a planter. I found this modern wood and metal bench at Houzz.com, click here to find it.  The pillow covers came from Hobby Lobby, click here to find them and the wall art over the bench came from AT HOME Click here to see it on their website.   This all came together to give me the Modern Farmhouse entry foyer that is laid back and casual.  LOVE!

Mid-Century meets Farmhouse

I’m a huge fan of the clean lines of mid-century modern furniture and I have several pieces throughout our home. To me, Modern Farmhouse is the perfect mix of mid-century modern, rustic and farmhouse.  I found this particular piece for our entry foyer at one of my favorite auction houses.  My friend Kay and I had a great hookup for furniture when we owned our own used furniture store.  The guys that owned our favorite auction house would find mid-century pieces for us and start sending me pictures of the most amazing stuff.  If you’ve never been to an auction you should really check one out if you are looking for furniture.  You never know what treasures you will find.  The lamps and vase are from Target click here and here to order them and the mirror is from IKEA here.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of my Modern Farmhouse Entry Foyer.  To see our full Modern Farmhouse tour click here.   Please shoot me any questions or comments. I’d love to hear from you!
